CRS Level2 Product Features

  • This product provides Computed Fluxes for Consistent Clouds at the instantaneous footprint level.
    • Footprints identical to the SSF Level2 product for the CERES observed Top-of-Atmosphere (TOA) fluxes.
    • Designed to be compared with other Terra or Aqua based satellite products.
  • This product provides surface fluxes that are based on hourly radiative transfer computations.
  • CRS product provides computed fluxes based on the Fu-Liou radiative transfer model using GFDL-GEOS-4 atmosphere, MODIS clouds and MODIS/MATCH aerosols.
  • The TOA computed fluxes are also tuned to the CERES measured fluxes by adjusting cloud, surface and GEOS-4 atmosphere properties to provide consistent surface, profile and TOA fluxes and clouds.
    • Computed fluxes provided at the surface, 500mb, 200mb, 70mb and TOA.
    • Computed fluxes are given under pristine (no aerosol), clear-sky, all-sky (no aerosol) and all-sky conditions.
  • Applicable Studies:
    • Cloud and aerosol properties comparison
    • Cloud and aerosol radiative forcing estimate and comparison with other estimate
    • Comparison of radiation, aerosol and cloud properties with model other then GCM (ie. LES, CRM)
    • Flux calculation with simple transfer model
    • In situ Flux comparison over particular region
    • Interpretation of radiation cloud and aerosol property variability
